NEW AI-Powered Roleplay Environment Editor

The latest Rehearsal update allows authors to upload supporting documents (DOCX., TXT, PDF, Markdown), describe what they want to build,  and generate a complete Environment including a title, learner-facing description, learning goals, and AI Character persona, in a single simple prompt.

AI-Powered Environment Generation

• Document upload: drag-and-drop or file-picker upload of one or more supporting docs (up to 20MB each).
• Creation prompt: free-text input where the author describes the Environment they want to build
• Generation Environment: one action produces a full Environment including title, learner-facing description, 3-5 learning goals, and a complete AI Character persona (name, description, instructions, suggested voice, and personality)

Side-by-Side Refinement with AI

• Split view: Current version and AI-generated version are shown side-by-side for both the description and the AI Character
• Refinement prompt: Describe the change “Make it more frustrated” and AI regenerates from the current content plus the refinement prompt
• Accept or discard: You have full control to decide if you will keep all, parts, or none of the suggestions.

Workflow States

• Three clear states: Always know where you are in your environment creation. A new generation flow replaces the empty-state form for new Environments. Authors provide context once and get a complete first draft.

This release also adds custom AI Character images and moves Session grading and feedback to an asynchronous polling model.

Custom AI Character Image

• Custom image upload: Replace the fixed visuals to match your brand or scenario. Images are stored per account and served via the existing image-delivery pipeline.

Asynchronous Session Grading

• No timeouts on long Sessions: Longer sessions risked hitting the 30-second API Gateway timeout because grading happened in a single synchronous call.
• Polling architecture: The front-end now requests grading and polls for the result, so larger Sessions are processed reliably.

Bug Fixes & More

Environment Description Rendering

• Markdown-only rendering: Environment descriptions always render as Markdown. The legacy fallback that switched to raw HTML rendering when HTML was detected has been removed.
• Clean paste from Microsoft Word and web pages: Pasting from Word or a web page no longer leaks <br /> or other HTML tags into the Markdown source. Plain-text paste behavior is unchanged.
• No regression for existing Environments: Existing descriptions with clean Markdown continue to render correctly; descriptions that previously contained HTML now render via the Markdown renderer.

Updated

• Auto-Draft and Refine with AI on AI Instructions: The AI Instructions field now shows Auto-Draft when the field is empty and Refine with AI once it has content — one or the other, never both. Auto-Draft generates a first version from the current Environment context; Refine with AI iteratively improves the existing instructions via a refinement prompt.
